Since 2009 I have been creating small games as a hobby, starting when I discovered Game Maker 7. I developed my skills in Game Maker in the subsequent years with its native programming language, GML, being the first programming language I learned. Eventually, I switched to learning Unity, an engine in which I primarily prototyped in in order to learn C#.
During 2015, I ran a server for Garry’s Mod which quickly became the top server within its respective community and helped me develop my team-working skills, communication skills, community management skills and gave me the opportunity to practice another programming language; LUA.
Following this, in 2017 I joined the team for Project Borealis, a community project aiming to create a sequel to Half-Life 2 in Unreal Engine 4, based on Marc Laidlaws; Epistle 3. This provided me with a unique insight into how a professional game development team works and gave me a better understanding on what I wish my role within a game development team to be.
In 2018, after making the decision to leave Project Borealis, I started my own project, GORE, with a friend from YoYoGames, Caleb Ralph, using everything I had learnt from my previous experience to lead the project.
Then, in 2021 I returned to education in order to develop my programming skills further with the goal to get a degree in computer science. I effectively progressed through college and was accepted into my first choice of University in 2023. In my first year of University I achieved three A’s and two B’s with a clear understanding on what do next to improve my grades further.
